It has general oversight of UKRI\u2019s activities and is responsible for achieving UKRI\u2019s strategic objective and vision.<\/p>\n<p>The board is made up of UKRI\u2019s Chair, Chief Executive and Chief Finance Officer, as well as between nine and 12 independent members drawn from:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>higher education<\/li>\n<li>industry and commerce<\/li>\n<li>policy<\/li>\n<li>charities<\/li>\n<li>other non-governmental organisations<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Board members are appointed by the Secretary of State for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT). Members initially serve for three to five years.
